These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of newme — the desktop application, web application at newme.global, and related APIs — operated by New Media Technologies, Inc., a Delaware corporation ("we," "us," or "our"). By using newme, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
newme is a local-first writing and publishing tool. The desktop application reads your messaging history from platforms you choose (such as iMessage, WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, and others), indexes your own sent messages locally on your device, and uses AI to generate personalized stories, research documents, and conversational experiences based on your writing patterns.
The newme website (newme.global) provides account management, subscription billing, and an API that proxies requests between the desktop application and third-party AI providers. The website may also host additional features such as interactive story worlds.
The desktop application is open-source software released under the MIT License. The source code is available at gitlab.com/rainierrubin/newme.
You can use the desktop application without an account by providing your own API key for a supported AI provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, or a local Ollama instance). Some features — including the newme-hosted API proxy — require an account.
If you create an account:
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or engage in abusive use of the service.
You must be at least 18 years old to use newme and to create an account. By using the service, you confirm you meet this requirement.
newme offers tiered subscription plans that provide monthly credits for using the newme-hosted AI proxy:
Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period at the then-current price unless cancelled. You may cancel your subscription at any time from the account page or through the Stripe billing portal. Upon cancellation, you retain access to your current plan through the end of the billing period; no prorated refunds are issued for the remaining term.
We may change subscription pricing at any time. Price changes take effect at the start of your next billing period. We will notify you of material price changes in advance.
Credits are consumed when you use the newme-hosted API proxy for chat, story generation, or research. One credit corresponds to approximately 1,000 AI tokens (combined input and output). Credits are allocated monthly and do not roll over between billing periods.
Credits have no cash value, are non-transferable, and are non-redeemable for cash except as required by law. Unused credits are forfeited upon account cancellation or service termination. We may change the value or allocation of credits at any time.
We use Stripe, Inc. as our payment processor. By subscribing to a paid plan, you agree to Stripe's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Your payment information is collected and processed directly by Stripe — we do not receive or store your credit card number.
You authorize us (via Stripe) to charge your designated payment method at the beginning of each billing period. If payment fails, we may suspend access to paid features until payment is resolved. All fees are non-refundable except as required by applicable law.
The newme desktop application runs locally on your computer. It reads messaging history from data sources you explicitly provide (such as a copy of your iMessage database or exported chat files). The application:
When you use the newme API proxy (the "newme" provider), your message excerpts pass through our servers on their way to the AI provider. We do not store, log, or retain the content of these messages. Our server acts as a relay only. When you use your own API key or a local Ollama instance, your messages are sent directly to that provider and never pass through our infrastructure.
newme uses third-party AI models (such as those from Anthropic and OpenAI) to generate stories, research documents, and chat responses. AI-generated content may be inaccurate, inconsistent, or unexpected. We make no guarantees about the accuracy, quality, or appropriateness of any AI-generated content. You are solely responsible for reviewing, editing, and using any content generated by the service.
You own the stories, research documents, and other outputs generated by the desktop application. We claim no ownership of your generated content.
Your messages, generated stories, and other personal content remain yours. We do not claim ownership of any content you create or process through newme.
The newme name, logo, website design, and API are owned by New Media Technologies, Inc. The desktop application source code is available under the MIT License — see the LICENSE file for details.

You agree not to:
newme relies on third-party services to operate. These include AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI), authentication (Clerk), payment processing (Stripe), hosting (Vercel), database (Supabase), and bot protection (Cloudflare). Each of these services has its own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the actions or policies of these third-party providers.
When you use a local AI provider (such as Ollama), your data is processed entirely on your own hardware and is not subject to any third-party terms through our service.
newme is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or available at any given time. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of newme at any time without notice.
We make no representations regarding the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI-generated content, including stories, research, and chat responses. AI outputs may contain errors, inaccuracies, or content that is offensive or inappropriate.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, New Media Technologies, Inc. and its officers, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including lost profits, lost data, loss of goodwill, or damages arising from the use or inability to use newme — whether or not we were advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of these Terms or your use of the service will not exceed the greater of: (a) the total amounts you paid to us during the three months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred dollars ($100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless New Media Technologies, Inc. and its officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, losses, costs, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from: (a) your use of the service; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any third-party rights; or (d) any content you create, generate, or distribute using newme.
You may delete your account at any time from the account page. Upon deletion:
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the service will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date above. Material changes will be communicated to account holders via email. Your continued use of newme after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
