This Privacy Policy applies to newme (the desktop application, the website at newme.global, and related APIs), operated by New Media Technologies, Inc. ("we," "us," or "our").
newme is a local-first application. Your messaging data is processed and stored on your own device. We designed newme so that the most sensitive data — your personal messages — never needs to leave your computer unless you choose to use an AI feature that requires it.
If you create an account on newme.global, we collect:
If you subscribe to a paid plan, your payment information is collected and processed directly by Stripe. We do not receive or store your credit card number. We do receive and store:
We use Vercel Analytics on newme.global to measure page views and site performance. Vercel Analytics collects:
Vercel Analytics does not use cookies and does not track users across websites. We do not use this data for advertising, marketing, or user profiling.
We use Cloudflare Turnstile on our sign-up page to prevent automated abuse. Turnstile may collect device and browser characteristics to distinguish humans from bots. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy for details.
The newme desktop application processes your messaging data entirely on your device. When you import messages (from iMessage, WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, or other supported platforms), the application:
~/Library/newme/ (macOS) — this data is never uploaded to our serversMessage excerpts leave your device only when you actively use an AI feature (generating a story, chatting, or conducting research) and only the specific message chunks relevant to that request are transmitted. The destination depends on your chosen provider:
| Provider | Where data goes | Passes through our servers? |
|---|---|---|
| newme (default) | Our API proxy → Anthropic or OpenAI | Yes (relay only — not stored) |
| Your own API key (Anthropic, OpenAI, etc.) | Directly to the provider you configure | No |
| Ollama (local) | Stays on your machine (localhost) | No |
The desktop application does not send telemetry, analytics, crash reports, or usage data. The only network calls the desktop application makes are to the AI provider you configure.
When you use the "newme" provider (the default), your requests are routed through our API proxy at newme.global. This proxy:
The only data we record from API requests is the token count and credit cost, which is logged as a billing transaction (for example: "Chat (gpt-4.1-nano): 500in + 200out"). The actual content of your messages and the AI's responses are not stored.
We use the information we collect to:
We do not use your information for advertising, user profiling, or marketing. We do not sell your data.
We use the following third-party services to operate newme. Each processes data only as necessary to provide its service:
| Service | Purpose | Data shared |
|---|---|---|
| Clerk | Authentication | Email, username, password (hashed) |
| Supabase | Database | Account data, billing records |
| Stripe | Payment processing | Payment method, billing address |
| Vercel | Hosting & analytics | Page views, browser info, IP-derived location |
| Cloudflare | Bot protection (Turnstile) | Device characteristics during sign-up |
| Anthropic | AI provider | Message excerpts sent via API proxy |
| OpenAI | AI provider | Message excerpts sent via API proxy |
When you use your own API key or a local Ollama instance, your data goes directly to the provider you configure and is not shared through our services.
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your account data, including HTTPS encryption for all communications, secure password hashing (via Clerk), and access controls on our database. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
The desktop application stores your message index and settings as unencrypted files on your device. Your device's own security (disk encryption, user account controls) is the primary protection for this local data.
You can delete your account at any time from the account page. When you delete your account:
